We are looking forward to the upcoming "20 International Hapkido and Korean Martial Art Seminar" on the 5th - 7th of March, 2004. We have instructors and students from as far away as Seoul, Korea and Sydney, Australia, and many of the major Hapkido ranking organizations will be represented, including the KHF, the NKMAA, SinMoo Hapkido as well as the USKMAF. The hotel is rapidly filling up, so please make you reservations early. If you can't get a room at the host hotel, please call me at 601-856-8487 and we will suggest an alternate.

You can tell how hard an instructor has worked for his rank by how hard he makes others work to get it.

Before you promote a student to black belt, ask yourself this question. If my reputation as a teacher is to be judged by observing only this student, how will I be remembered?

On behalf of my family and myself, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to offer their prayers and condolences after the passing of my wife, Renee on September 15th, 2003. I wish I could contact everyone personally and thank you all for your telephone calls, cards, flowers and for the gift of your time and friendship. Please try to understand that with the outpouring of thoughts from our friends, we gave up trying to keep up with "who sent what" within a day or two of her passing. The "Celebration of Renee's Life" party on September 20th, 2003, drew in excess of 1000 of her closest friends....She will be missed, but will not be gone as long as her friends and family remember her. J. R. West, Eric and Mara

The Eagle and the Wolf
There is a great battle that rages inside me. One side is the soaring eagle. Everything the eagle stands for is good and true and beautiful, and it soars above the clouds. Even though it dips down among the valleys, it lays its eggs on the mountain tops.
The other side of me is the howling wolf. And that raging, howling wolf represents the worst that is in me. He eats upon my downfalls and justifies himself by his presence in the pack.
Who wins this great battle?
THE ONE I FEED! anonymous

On July 11th, 1998, USAF 1st Lieutenant Michael J. Blassie was laid to rest at the Jefferson Barracks in his home town of St. Louis, MO, after spending the last 14 years in the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington, VA. Master and Mrs. West were invited by Lt. Blassie's family to attend the services as their guest. After Master West's return from VietNam, he and Lt. Blassie became good friends and traveling companions while playing tennis together for the military. Lt. Blassie was a fine young man, and a great pilot and will not be soon forgotten. Master and Mrs. West send their thanks to the entire Blassie family for allowing them to be a part of this incredible occasion. Rest in Peace Michael. Pictures from Blassie Funeral
